**Bhubaneswar:** A youth was beaten to death by locals over a minor tiff at Sunderpada-Sarakantara canal under Airfield police limits here on Sunday late evening.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Ranjan Baliarsingh, a resident of Dumduma under Khandagiri police limits. He was working as a gym trainer.
According to sources, Jyoti was riding on his bike with two other friends when his bike hit another bike coming from the opposite direction. A mother-son duo was riding on that bike. Initially there were exchange of heated words which took a violent turn later.
Jyoti and his friends threw the other bike following which the youth and his mother called some villagers and acquaintances. The locals gathered and started beating Jyoti and his friends during which Jyoti sustained severe injuries near his ear that took away his life.
The Airfields police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. They have detained the mother-son duo and are further investigating into the matter.
Earlier today, family members of the deceased youth along with Dumduma villagers blocked the National Highway near Khandagiri demanding action against the persons who attacked Jyoti.
The road blockade was withdrawn after police arrived at the spot and assured to take appropriate action on the issue.
